Best Places to Watch the TX/OU Game for 2011

It's that time again - the annual Texas/OU game is this weekend, so I visited the WFAA Daybreak set to chat with Ron Corning about the best places around town to watch this year's 'Red River Rivalry'.

Urban Taco will kick off game day with a special brunch menu from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday where the focus will be a build-your-own-breakfast taco bar as well as bottomless margaritas & mimosas. Fans can catch all the on-field action on one of 9 large TV screens on premise - including a mini stadium seating floor plan with bleachers & outdoor bars.

They are taking over their parking lot to create a State Fair-like atmosphere for fans to enjoy with face painters, adult snow cones and fair games like “down the clown” and “quarterback toss”. The highlight of the carnival will be a dunk tank where fans can “dunk” someone from the opposing team. Stadium bleachers will be set up in the parking lot (one set for TX fans/another set for OU fans) to allow for seating and great people-watching.  A portion of the proceeds from this event will go to benefit Young Texans Against Cancer and First Descents.    Urban Taco, 3411 McKinney, Dallas, TX, 75204, 214-922-7080

If you want the stadium experience. head over to the Granada Theater to watch the game in HD on the movie screen. The Granada offers a full menu and bar for your enjoyment.  Tickets are $21.65 and can be purchased onlineGranada Theater, 3524 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75206, 214-824-9933

For a more upscale, sophisticated experience plan on catching the action at the Second Floor at the Dallas Galleria. Resident Mixologist, Jason Henry, has created two specialty drinks for the occasion: Bevo Tea and a Sooner Sloe Gin.  Second Floor, 13340 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75240, 972.450.2978

If entertaining at home is more to your liking, visit T. Hee Greetings and Gifts for a wide array of TX/OU themed party goods and fun accessories like a "Bad Call Brick" or a "Penalty Flag".  T. Hee Greetings and Gifts, 6465 E Mockingbird Lane, Ste 314, Dallas, TX 75214, 972-996-2606 or 9661 Audelia Road, Ste 110, Dallas, TX 75238, 214-747-5800

MEET BEVO!!!

This picture was taken at last year’s Bevo meet and greet, at Brenda Sandoz’s house on Stanford Avenue. She’s opening up her front yard again, and welcoming the neighbors with some burgers and Bevo.

Festivities kick off around 11:30 a.m. Friday at 2936 Stanford and run through 1 p.m.; all are welcome.

For a complete listing of events all over town, pick up this week's Dallas Observer or visit their online calendar.
