Well, I have to hand it to my pal, Steven Doyle, over at CraveDFW. He totally scooped me on this bit of news.
Today Doyle broke this bit of culinary news:
"This is the season for new restaurant openings, a fantastic sign that our economy must be perking up – or we are all really hungry. The latest news is from radioland where 103.7 Lite FM hosts Gene and Julie Gates reign supreme as a real life married couple that chat up early morning commuters with their witty banter and are the executive producers and talent of the Gene & Julie Show. Long been known as gourmets, the Gates are friendly with chefs, host foodie events, and dine extremely well across the Dallas restaurant landscape.
Yesterday Gene Gates called to say that the couple signed a lease and plan to open a restaurant of their very own. Gene tells us that there is a need for a high end authentic rustic Italian restaurant in North Dallas and they have signed a lease at 4727 Frankford in the former Pho Colonial location just off the tollway. The Gates are in search for a chef to develop the menu, and hope to pick from the pool of local chefs. We did not get a target opening date, but most assuredly this is a 2013 project in the works. We will, of course, keep you updated."
