Robert Mondavi takes Dallas on a Private Selection Wine Crawl

A few weeks ago Robert Mondavi Wines passed through town to host a wine crawl which featured food and wine pairings at several Uptown locations. The event was an opportunity for a select few to taste and experience California’s Central Coast, the area where Robert Mondavi Private Selection sources their grapes.  I couldn't attend, but I am ALL about wine, so I sent my trusty assistant, Brittany Husted, in my place to scope out the scene and report back. Here's her recap:

“Drink what you like and like what you drink” was one of Robert Mondavi’s mottos when it came to wine. Mr. Mondavi’s life was devoted to making wines that reflected the distinctive vineyards of California’s Central and North Coast appellations, which he did with the introduction of Robert Mondavi Private Selection in 1994.

“With all the wine competition today, the wine crawl is a way to debut the new and improved branding of Robert Mondavi Private Selection,” says Sally Campion, Marketing Manager for the label. “Robert Mondavi’s principals were clear when it came to producing wine. He wanted something that was authentic, real, and original.”

The wine crawl took place at 4 different bars. Each bar served up a red and white wine along with various food options. We started at Cru Wine bar where we tasted a Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The waiters brought around assorted appetizers like Salmon Bruschetta and Crab Cakes…delicious! From there we moved to Union Bear where we sipped on Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir, while tasting some of the best pizza I’ve had. Our 3rd stop was The Fish where Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec were paired with sushi rolls. Yes that’s correct, we went from pizza to sushi!  Last but definitely not least we headed to Malai for Riesling and Zinfandel.

I ended the wine crawl with a delicious bite…or three of banana pudding. Even though the food and wine samples were all very different, that’s the beauty of the new Robert Mondavi Private Selection –it’s meant to accommodate just about any mood and food craving. ~Brittany Husted
