The Addams Family brings their wacky family drama to Dallas

I invited to attend a performance of THE ADDAMS FAMILY, presented by Dallas Summer Musicals last Friday.  I am always looking for new experiences to share with my son, so we headed off to get spooky-ookey with America's wackiest family.   I thought it was kind of fitting that this show is in town for the month of October.  If you've seen the old TV show or even the movies, you know all you need to know about this kooky family. And, even if you've never heard of the Addams family (like my 12-year old) you will still enjoy this rowdy musical.

The premise of the show is that Wednesday has fallen deliriously in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. Yes, Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has a “normal” boyfriend, and for parents Gomez and Morticia, this shocking development has turned the Addams house downside up.  The show was full of funny pop culture references from the past (a line from The Honeymooners) and the present (a Charlie Sheen rehab reference) and had the audience is laughing out loud and tapping their feet along with the show's catchy tunes.

The website says the show is appropriate for ages 7 and up but I would say it's more appropriate for kids 12 and up.  There were several sexual innuendos and one blatant references to sex in the dinner scene when the family plays a game called "Full Disclosure".   The best part about the show is that your tickets gets you free admission to the State Fair of Texas, so it's like getting two family-fun events for the price of one!  My son and I enjoyed the evening and give this show two thumbs up.

The show will run through October 21, 2012 at Music Hall at Fair Park.  Running Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes (including one 15-minute intermission. For show times and tickets, visit http://www.dallassummermusicals.org/shows_addams.shtm
