Friday night, I took a little trip to Santa Fe, and it only took me 20 minutes to get there. I drove over to the Preston Hollow estate of Anne and Steve Stodghill to attend Mission Olé benefitting the Trinity River Mission. Trinity River Mission is a volunteer-based community learning center that promotes literacy, encourages academic success and develops effective life skills among disadvantaged youth in West Dallas, in the belief that education connects us to life’s possibilities. The party was themed the “Mountains of Santa Fe” and I walked into a sea of turquoise and silver jewelry, boots, leather and suede. Co-chairs Angela Choquette, Cary Deuber and Maggie Kipp were working the room(s) making sure everyone was having a good time and bidding on silent auction items. Unfortunately honorary Chair Chad Hennings was under the weather and couldn't make the event but, never fear, the festivities prevailed without him.

Sassy Steve Kemble was tasked to MC the live auction which was held poolside. A technical issue kept the outside lights from working, so poor Steve had to call for a flashlight to read his script. Servers working the buffet line had to rely on guests to use flashlight apps on their cell phones to be able to serve food. It was so dark you literally couldn't see what was on your plate but guests made the best of it and laughingly referred to the night as a "Braile Dinner". You didn't know what you were eating but, thanks to Wendy Krispin Catering, it was all delicious. Spotted in the darkness were Renee and Florian Rouleau, JB Hayes, Nancy Gopez, Rick and Janet Fresquez, Bret McKinney, Allison Volk and Jeff and Jennifer Buxton. The highlight of the night was a concert by singer/songwriter Radney Foster.
