The Community Council of Greater Dallas celebrated its milestone 75th anniversary on November 2 with a luncheon attracting 450 corporate and community leaders, representatives of The Council’s member agencies and politicians to the Westin Galleria. Headline for the event was a Conversation with Emmitt Smith. The NFL Hall of Famer and former Cowboys standout shared insights on football and life with his good friend, KXAS Sports Director Newy Scruggs. Before the audience received its dose of football, Oncor CEO Bob Shapard, presenting sponsor, said the company was pleased to support the Community Council and shared the excellent experience of working with them on Get Kidz Fit!, the annual fun health event for children and their families. Executive Director of the Community Council Martha Blaine shared highlights of the Council’s history of collaborative work and its initiatives now. She said, “Our programs touch people when they really need help or resources, and I was really pleased to share the message with our audience.” Kristi Sherrill Hoyl, chief government affairs officer, BaylorScott&White Health, chaired the luncheon. She said, “We more than accomplished our goals to celebrate the Community Council’s 75 years of service, raise awareness of its work now and to generate funds for its programs.” The luncheon raised $115,000, with proceeds for Council programs including the Dallas Area Agency on Aging, Community Youth Development Program, 2-1-1 and Coalitions and Planning.
