Jeremy Lock Flies Solo With A New Photo Exhibit at JM Gallery

JM Gallery recently launched a solo show of aerial landscapes and portrait photographs from photographer Jeremy Lock. The new exhibition kicked off Friday, March 3 where Lock hosted friends and family. In attendance were Lock's wife, D'Andra Simmons, and several of her Real Housewives of Dallas cast mates: Lee Anne Locken, Rich Emberlin, Dr. Mark and Cary Deuber. I loved that Kate Rose Marquez had her children in tow for a cultural outing, and I also chatted with Hamilton Sneed, JB Hayes, Jane McGarry, Steve Kemble, Chad Collum and a host of other interesting characters.

During his adrenaline-filled career as a military photographer, Jeremy Lock documented battles, disasters, and everyday life in Afghanistan, Iraq, Japan, Haiti, Mongolia, and many other locations. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for distinguished service in Iraq, and was named Military Photojournalist of the Year seven times. Though no longer in the military, Lock’s intense vision and passion continue to motivate and inspire him and his work.

He travels constantly, documenting landscapes that evoke the frightening power and awesome beauty of our world and capturing images of the people who occupy it that evoke the essence and reality of humanity at its finest and its worst. As he explains, "Not only do I get to live my life, but I've been able to live the lives of those I photograph, even if it was just for a moment. I thrive on sharing those experiences."

For this show, Lock shares his experiences with a collection of aerial landscapes and portraits from around the world. The vistas and people, though far-flung and diverse, are united in his photographs by pattern, shape, color, and texture. African deserts, Alaskan tundra, an old man’s face—all very different, yet with so much in common, if we know how to look. Lock feels these photographs help us to see past our differences and understand how much of the world and our human experience within it are held in common. Lock’s work has been published in such magazines, newspapers and books as National Geographic, Time, New York Times, The Washington Post, and many more. His work has earned multiple awards from prestigious organizations including World Press Photo, National Press Photographers Association, Oasis, among many others. View his stunning photos  through April 15th at JM Gallery at One Arts Plaza 1722 Routh Street, Suite 106, Dallas, TX.
